Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge Address: 17076 293rd Ave Zimmerman, MN 55398 Phone: 763-389-3323; Fax: 763-389-3493; Web: www.fws.gov/midwest/sherburne Established: 1965. Location: East-central Minnesota, approximately 50 miles northwest of Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Facilities: Trails (é), viewing sites, auto tour route. Activities: Canoeing, fishing, hunting, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, educational programs. Special Features: American Indian village sites discoverd on the refuge date back to 1300 A.D. Habitats: 30,700 acres of oak savanna, big woods, and wetlands. Access: Open from dawn to dusk; designated wildlife sanctuary areas are closed to public access from March through August. Wild life: Canada geese, duck, owls, woodpeckers, snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, coyote, wolf, vole, white-tailed deer, gray and red fox. See other parks in Minnesota.
