Sherman, James S. (Schoolcraft) (1855–1912) vice-president, U.S. representative; born in Utica, N.Y. He was known as an amicable and parliamentary congressman (1887–91, 1893–1904). Both parties praised his handling of the Senate while he was vice-president under William Howard Taft (1909–12).
