Shipstead, Henrik

Shipstead, Henrik (1881–1960) U.S. senator; born in Burbank, Minn. A dentist, he was elected to the U.S. Senate (Farmer-Labor Party, later Rep., Minn.; 1923–47). A supporter of La Follette and of the New Deal, he was also an isolationist. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he opposed U.S. membership in the United Nations.
