Shirin 

a city (since 1972) under oblast jurisdiction in Syr Darya Oblast, Uzbek SSR. Situated on the left bank of the Syr Darya River, Shirin is 6 km from the Farkhad railroad station on the Khavast-Kokand line. The Farkhad Hydroelectric Power Plant, which produces 126 megawatts of power, is located in Shirin. Construction of the Syr Darya State Regional Electric Power Plant was under way in Shirin in 1978; the first phase of the plant’s operation was begun in 1975, with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts.

Iranian Nobel Laureate and human rights activist Shirin Ebadi on Monday implored Muslim women to assume a wider role in their home countries through education and active participation in politics.
Shirin Ebadi spoke to an audience of five hundred people at Naropa University on Friday to answer questions about Islam and human rights, discrimination against women and whether Muslims would be best to "promote human rights through a secular state," Denver's The Examiner quoted her as saying.
24 (ANI): Britain has ignored Iran's savage suppression of opposition in order to safeguard talks on its nuclear program, claimed the latter country's only Nobel Laureate and human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi.
