in Afghanistan, Turkey, and Iran, a national joint-stock company. Shirkats were organized on a wide scale in various sectors of the economy in the 1920”s and 1930’s, when the development of national capitalism intensified in the countries mentioned. Supported and protected by the government, the shirkats contributed greatly to accelerating the accumulation of national capital.
