Suwon is an important transportation junction on the Seoul-Taejon-Pusan trunk railroad and highway; it also has a large airport. The city has a highly developed textile industry and food-processing and other enterprises. Suwon is the center of a rich farming region producing rice, tobacco, and other crops.
