Shveitser, Bogdan Iakovlevich 

Born Jan. 29,1816, in Wil, Zürich Canton, Switzerland; died June 24,1873, in Moscow. Russian astronomer.

Shveitser was a member of the staff at the Pulkovo Observatory from 1841 to 1845, when he left to take a position at the observatory at Moscow University. He was named director of the university’s observatory in 1856.

A number of observations Shveitser made with a transit instrument became the basis for the Pulkovo Catalog of 1845. Shveitser organized the investigation of the Moscow gravity anomaly and discovered four comets.
