Shwartzman phenomenon [′shwȯrts·mənfə‚näm·ə‚nän]
(immunology) A type of local tissue reactivity in the skin in which a preparatory injection of the endotoxin is followed by an intravenous injection of the same or another endotoxin 24 hours later, producing immediate neutropenia and thrombopenia with the development of leukocyte-platelet thrombi with subsequent hemorrhage.
