The island observatory also ringed a Siberian chiffchaff
Ynys Enlli (Bardsey) had a great week, with an Eastern Subalpine Warbler, Golden Oriole, Blue-headed Wagtail, Siberian Chiffchaff
and a possible Siberian Lesser Whitethroat - although its certain identity awaits a DNA test in an Aberdeen laboratory.
One was over Bardsey this week and another (or the same) over southwest Llyen, where a possible Siberian chiffchaff
was at Porth Meudwy.
A Siberian Chiffchaff
was on the Great Orme, along with Firecrests, Lapland Bunting and a Richard's Pipit, with more Firecrests at RSPB Conwy and Bardsey.
It was a splendid afternoon to look for the male Siberian chiffchaff
reported singing around the large pond there.
A probable Siberian Chiffchaff
was ringed at Penygroes, though arguments still rage in birding circles about how to identify this eastern subspecies.
Much rarer are Siberian Chiffchaffs
, seen on Bardsey and the Great Orme, which also each hosted a Yellow-browed Warbler.
Bardsey Bird Observatory finished its autumn season with a flourish: Red-breasted Flycatcher, Barred Warbler, six Siberian Chiffchaffs
and at least 10 Yellow-browed Warblers.
