sidereal year, time required for the earth to complete an orbit of the sun relative to the stars. The sidereal year is 365 days, 6 hr, 9 min, 9.5 sec of mean solar time (see solar time solar time, time defined by the position of the sun. Sidereal Year 

the period of time between two successive arrivals of the sun, in its apparent annual motion, at the same point (with respect to the stars) on the celestial sphere. The sidereal year is equal to the earth’s period of revolution around the sun, with respect to the stars. The duration of a sidereal year is 365.25636 mean solar days.
