(cell and molecular biology) A ribonucleoprotein consisting of a ribonucleic acid (RNA) molecule and six distinct peptide chains that recognizes the signal sequence of a partially synthesized protein and guides it along with its ribosome to a signal recognition particle receptor in the endoplasmic reticulum.
