SIGTRAN is a VoIP protocol that allows PSTN network's Signaling System 7 (SS7) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) traffic transport over IP networks.

The contract is the second one T-Mobile has signed with Tekelec in fewer than six months and follows the successful roll-out of Tekelec's Sigtran--Internet protocol (IP)-based signaling system 7 (SS7) solution, running on the EAGLE[R] 5 Integrated Signaling System (ISS), at T-Mobile Germany earlier this year.

Tekelec Extends Relationship with T-Mobile to The Netherlands by Business Wire

The solution is intended to replace telephone-only switching schemes based on Signaling System 7, which do not address load balancing of any media other than circuit-switched voice telephone calls.
