Simon, Yves (René Marie) (1903–61) philosopher; born in Cherbourg, France. After studying in Paris under Jacques Maritain and teaching at the University of Lille, he went to the United States, where he taught at Notre Dame University (from 1938) and the University of Chicago (from 1948); he was a leading Thomistic philosopher.
