(formerly Kavakami), an urban-type settlement in Sakhalin Oblast, RSFSR, under the jurisdiction of the Iu-zhno-Sakhalinsk city soviet. Terminus of a branch of the Iuzhno-Sakhalinsk-Pobedino railroad line. Coal is mined in the area. The Sinegorsk Mineral Springs health resort is located near Sinegorsk.

About a third of the 1,500 metric tonne load - lost from the Russian-registered Sinegorsk about 14 miles off the coast of Newhaven, East Sussex on January 19 - was recovered from beaches in Kent.

The Sinegorsk cargo ship, bound for the Egyptian port of Alexandria, reported Monday that it had lost 1,500 metric tonnes of timber in the English Channel around 14 miles offshore.
