Sinelnikov, Nikolai Aleksandrovich

Sinel’nikov, Nikolai Aleksandrovich 

Born Nov. 26 (Dec. 8), 1885, in Moscow; died late November 1941, en route to Tashkent. Soviet anthropologist.

Sinel’nikov began working in the subdepartment of anthropology at Moscow State University in 1924 and at the university’s Institute of Anthropology in 1934. He modified and designed several anthropometric instruments and studied the osteon system of the hips in man and anthropoid apes.

Sinel’nikov received the State Prize of the USSR in 1950 for his research on the bones of the skeleton of a Neanderthal child found in the grotto of Teshik-Tash.
