Singapore Strait, channel, 30 mi (48 km) long and 10 mi (16.1 km) wide, between Singapore island and the Riau Archipelago, Indonesia. It links the Strait of Malacca with the South China Sea and is a major shipping route of SE Asia.
Singapore Strait a strait situated between the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and Singapore Island in the north and the Riau Archipelago in the south; it connects the South China Sea with the Strait of Malacca. The Singapore Strait is 110 km long and 4.6 to 21 km wide. Its maximum depth is 22 m. A sea route passes through the strait connecting ports between South and East Asia, South Asian ports with those of America and Australia, and East Asian ports with those of Europe and Africa.
