The highest of its three peaks (all of which are snow-covered in winter and spring) rises to 9,232 ft (2,814 m). 2 Variant of Zion Zion or Sion , section of Jerusalem, defined in the Bible as the City of David. Originally the name referred to the Jebusite fortress conquered by David, on the southeastern hill of Jerusalem. Sion, town, SwitzerlandSion (syôN), Ger. Sitten, town (1993 pop. 25,300), capital of Valais canton, SW Switzerland, on the Rhône River. An ancient town, Sion is now a wine and horticultural market center. There are hydroelectric plants and coal mines nearby. Sion has been an episcopal see since the 6th cent.
