Denbighshire (dĕn`bēshĭr), Welsh Sir Ddinbych, county, 326 sq mi (844 sq km), N Wales. In 1974, the old county of Denbighshire was divided between the nonmetropolitan counties of Clwyd Clwyd , former county, N Wales, created in 1974 from Flintshire and parts of Denbighshire and Merionethshire. It was dissolved in 1996 and divided among the unitary authorities of Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham, Conwy, and Powys.
