Skellefteå 

a city in northern Sweden, in the län (county) of Västerbotten. Population, 72,400 (1976). Port on the Skellefteâ River near its influx into the Gulf of Bothnia of the Baltic Sea. Industry includes nonferrous metallurgy (copper and lead) and pulp manufacture. A hydroelectric power plant is located in the city.

Wulff, Hogberg, and Sandstrom, 1996 Wulff, Hogberg, and Sandstrom (1996) sought to ascertain whether an increased risk for childhood cancer existed among children born near the Skelleftea, Sweden, smelter which was known to emit various pollutants (including arsenic).
Note also announced the sacking of 124 employees in Sweden, as the company moves production to recently opened plants in China and Poland from its plants in Skelleftea, Norrtalje, Skanninge and Lund.
Skelleftea For hundreds of years Skelleftea was a devout Christian community and a reminder from that time is Skelleftea Kyrkstad (church town), which has been preserved and is now culturally protected.
