Skewbald Horde
(in Russian, Pegaia Orda), the Russian name for the Narym Selkup tribal union of the late 16th century. The name may have originated because the Selkups wore multicolored clothing made from the skins of small animals and birds. The horde was led by Prince Vonia, who had as many as 400 warriors and was allied with the Siberian khan Kuchum. Prince Vonia offered stubborn resistance to the Russian voevody (military commanders), and only after the founding of Narym in 1596 did the horde join the Russian state.
