Skidaway Island State Park Location: 15 miles southeast of Savannah on Diamond Causeway. Facilities: 88 tent/trailer/RV campsites, 3 pioneer campgrounds, 5 picnic shelters, group shelter, trails, swimming pool, playground, nature trails, observation towers, visitor center. Activities: Camping, swimming, hiking, bicycling, birding, interpretive programs. Special Features: This barrier island park includes both salt and freshwater habitats due to estuaries and marshes that flow through the area. The park borders Skidaway Narrows, part of the Intracoastal Waterway. Two nature trails wind through marshes, live oaks, cabbage-palmettos, and longleaf pines, offering visitors the opportunity to look for deer, raccoon, shore birds, and rare migrating birds such as the painted bunting. The park's visitor/interpretive center has a birding station, nature exhibits, and a gift shop.
