Skien (shē`ən, shā`ən), city (1995 pop. 48,341), capital of Telemark co., SE Norway, a port on the Skienselva River and on the Telemark Canal. Manufactures include forest products and processed food. Ibsen was born in Skien in 1828.

Skien 

a city and port in southern Norway, on the Skien River, near the place where the Skien flows into Bohus Bay of the Skagerrak. Administrative center of the fylke (county) of Telemark. Population, 47,000 (1976). Skien has footwear, food-processing, machine-building, and pulp and paper industries. It is the birthplace of the writer H. Ibsen.

A pleasant surprise for me prior to the game, was to be introduced to Haakon and Fiunn a couple from Skien in Norway, who had made the journey over to England for Christmas and took in the game rather than go to St Andrews.
In Division Three, the scramble for survival has left some clubs waiting on others, St Werburghs took the issue of re-election into their own hands needing a win from their last two games they travelled to Hale in the week and secured the points need, goals from Shaun Campbell (2), Scott Skien and Phil Ritzema ensured their place in the League next season.
The Oslo side clinched the title with a 2-2 draw away to Odd Grenland in Skien in their final game of the season.
