Skien (shē`ən, shā`ən), city (1995 pop. 48,341), capital of Telemark co., SE Norway, a port on the Skienselva River and on the Telemark Canal. Manufactures include forest products and processed food. Ibsen was born in Skien in 1828.

Skien a city and port in southern Norway, on the Skien River, near the place where the Skien flows into Bohus Bay of the Skagerrak. Administrative center of the fylke (county) of Telemark.
