Skramtaev, Boris Grigor’evich
Born Jan. 1 (14), 1905, in Goncharnaia Sloboda, in what is now Kursk Oblast; died Sept. 13, 1966, in Moscow. Soviet scientist; specialist in construction materials. Professor (1933) and doctor (1936) of engineering sciences. Member of the CPSU (1941). After graduating from the Kharkov Institute of Technology in 1926, Skramtaev participated in the design and building of various structures. From 1929 to 1931 he worked at the Ukrainian Buildings Institute in Kharkov. In 1932 he began teaching at the Moscow Construction Engineering Institute, the V. V. Kuibyshev Military Engineering Academy, and other higher educational institutions. Skramtaev’s principal works deal with the study of the properties and the improvement of the production processes of concrete and mineral binders. Skramtaev developed a theoretical basis for the strength of concrete, new types of concretes, and a method for calculating concrete composition.
