Skrigan, Ianka Alekseevich
(also Ivan Alekseevich Skrigan). Born Nov. 3 (16), 1905, in the village of Trukhanovi-chi, in what is now Minsk Oblast. Soviet Byelorussian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1964. Skrigan studied in the department of literature and linguistics of the pedagogical faculty of the Byelorussian State University from 1928 to 1932. His works have been published since 1924. Skrigan has produced a number of collections of short stories and novellas, including Storms Over the Backwater (1929), Encounters (1935), Short Stories (1956), Natal’ia (1957), Say But One Word (1961), My Story (1964), and Circles (1969). A collection of his criticism and reminescences appeared in 1965 under the title Morning Dews (1965). Skrigan has also translated stories by M. Gorky, I. Bunin, and 1. Babel’ into Byelorussian.
