Skuibin, Vladimir Nikolaevich
Born June 3, 1929, in Moscow; died there Nov. 15, 1963. Soviet motion-picture director. Skuibin studied at the Shchepkin Theatrical School. In 1955 he graduated from the directing department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography, where he had studied in G. V. Aleksandrov’s workshop. His creative work was characterized by an intensive search for material that expressed his civil and moral principles. Skuibin directed At the Count’s Ruins (1957, with I. Ia. Bolgarin, based on a work by A. P. Gaidar), Cruelty (1959, based on a work by P. F. Nilin), The Miracle Worker (1960, based on a work by V. F. Tendriakov), and Court (1962, with A. Manasarova, based on a work by V. F. Tendriakov). The documentary Only One Life (1965) deals with the life and work of Skuibin. REFERENCES[Sergievskaia, I.] Zhizn’i fil’my Vladimira Skuibina.
