    0.01 sec.
Skutecký, Dominik

Born Feb. 9, 1848, in Gajary, near Bratislava; died Mar. 13, 1921, in Banská Bystrica. Slovak painter.

Skutecký studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Upon completion of his studies he lived in Venice; from 1885 his main place of residence was Banská Bystrica. Skutecký painted scenes from the life of the common people, depicting the life of Slovak workers with particular warmth (Marketplace in Banská Bystrica, 1889, Slovak National Gallery, Bratislava). Imbued with love for the common people, his works are characterized by realistic imagery and natural rendering of light and air.
