Slava 

a battleship of the Russian Baltic Fleet. The Slava was commissioned in 1905. It had a displacement of 13,516 tons and a speed of 18 knots (32 km/hr); it was armed with four 305-mm guns, 12 152-mm guns, 20 75-mm guns, 20 47-mm guns, two 37-mm cannons, two landing cannons, eight machine guns, and four torpedo tubes. The crew complement was 825. During World War I, the Slava participated in the Moonsund Operation of 1915 and the Moonsund Operation of 1917, during which it fought against German vessels attempting to break through into the Gulf of Finland. In the battle of Oct. 4 (17), 1917, the Slava took seven direct hits and was sunk by its crew at the southern entrance of the Moonsund Canal. After the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, one of the cruisers of the Soviet Navy’s Black Sea Fleet was named the Slava.
