(or crosshead), a member that performs reciprocating motion in rectilinear guides or, less frequently, rocking motion in arc-shaped guides. Slide blocks are members of crank-and-slide mechanisms, link gears, and some other mechanisms. In internal-combustion engines, compressors, and other similar machines, the piston is the crosshead.
