(civil engineering)
The space in a shipyard where a foundation for launching ways and keel blocks exists and which is occupied by a ship while under construction.
(naval architecture)
One of the timbers over which the cradle of a marine railway travels.
A sloping passage in a whaling ship's stern, through which whales are hauled in.

Slipway 

an inclined platform at the stern opening of a fishing vessel from which the catch, such as a trawl filled with fish, is hauled up on deck.
