a river in Zhitomir Oblast (Ukrainian SSR) and Gomel’ Oblast (Byelorussian SSR), a right tributary of the Pripiat’. The Slovechna is 158 km long and drains an area of 3,600 sq km. Previously, it drained an area of 2,670 sq km, but drainage operations conducted in 1961 diverted the Zhelon’ River into the Slovechna, resulting in an increased area being drained.
