    0.01 sec.
Slutskii, Evgenii Evgen’evich

Born Apr. 7 (19), 1880, in the village of Novoe, now in Yaroslavl Oblast; died Mar. 10, 1948, in Moscow. Soviet mathematician, statistician, and economist.

Slutskii studied at the University of Kiev in 1901 and 1902 and at the Technische Hochschule in Munich from 1902 to 1905. In 1905 he entered the law faculty of the University of Kiev, from which he graduated with a gold medal. Slutskii became a teacher at the Kiev Commercial Institute in 1913. In 1926 he joined the staff of the Central Statistical Board. He became affiliated with Moscow University in 1934 and with the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1938.

Slutskii was one of the creators of the modern theory of random functons (distributions in function spaces). Some of his works are devoted to the estimation of parameters, such as correlation coefficients, on the basis of series of associated observations. He applied the results he obtained in this field to the theory of hydrologic processes. During the last years of his life, he compiled tables of functions of several variables.
