Småland

an upland in southern Sweden; an arched elevated part of the Baltic Shield. Småland reaches a maximum elevation of 377 m, at Mount Tomtabacken. Its high, plateau-like surface is dissected by rivers that have rapids. The rivers radiate in different directions; their valleys, carved by glaciers, are situated along tectonic faults. The hilly, morainic relief features eskers. There are many lakes, swamps, and peat bogs. Lake Vättern juts into the northern part of Småland. There are coniferous and mixed forests and heaths.
