Smalian's formula [′smȯl·yəns ‚fȯr·myə·lə]

A cubic volume formula used in log scaling, expressed as cubic volume = [(B+b)/2]L, whereB= the cross-sectional area at the large end of the log,b= the cross-sectional area at the small end of the log, andL= log length.
