Smith, Thomas (active in Mass. 1650–90) painter. He is identified tentatively as Captain (or Major) Thomas Smith who arrived in Boston from Bermuda (1650). An attributed painting is Self-Portrait (c. 1690), showing a navy battle in the background with the artist holding a poem and a skull.
