Smith Falls State Park Location: 15 miles east on Highway 12 from the town of Valentine, then 4 miles south on gravel road. Facilities: 23 primitive tent campsites, modern restrooms, pay showers, food concession, picnic sites, picnic shelter with electricity, 1-mile hiking trail. Activities: Camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking (on established trails only). Special Features: Nebraska's newest state park straddles the Niobrara National Scenic River (see entry in national parks section). It protects biological and scenic features of the location and allows visitors a view of the state's highest waterfall. Facilities are located on the north side of the Niobrara, with a footbridge across the river providing a link to the falls, which are located on the south side of the river.
