Snider, (Edwin Donald) “Duke” (1926–  ) baseball player; born in Los Angeles. During his 18-year career (1947–64), primarily with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers, he established himself as one of the game's great center fielders as well as a powerful hitter. In five consecutive seasons (1953–57) he hit 40 or more home runs, a National League record. A broadcaster after retiring from baseball, he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1980.
