Snowden, Frank (Martin), Jr. (1911– ) classicist; born in York County, Va. Educated at Harvard (B.A. 1932; M.A. 1933; Ph.D. 1944) he taught at Howard University (1942–90) and was one of the first African-American classicists. His publications include Blacks in Antiquity (1970) and Before Color Prejudice: Ancient Views of Blacks (1983).
