Snowdrift Gauge
an instrument for the measurement of the drifting of snow during blizzards. There are many designs for such gauges. For example, the Kuznetsov snowdrift gauge consists of a container with an inlet port that is aimed into the wind by a weathervane. The snow that enters the port settles to the bottom of the cylinder, and the air, after being freed of the snow, passes out through a tube; a baffle holds back the snow. The amount of snow is determined by weighing. REFERENCEKedrolivanskii, V. N., and M. S. Sternzat. Meteorologicheskie pribory. Leningrad, 1953.Want to thank TFD for its existence?
