Society of Russian Aquafortists
an association of artists working in the medium of etching. It was founded in St. Petersburg in 1871 by A. I. Somov. Its membership consisted predominantly of peredvizhniki (the “wanderers”—a progressive art movement), including N. N. Ge, M. K. Klodt, I. N. Kram-skoi, G. G. Miasoedov, K. A. Savitskii, and I. I. Shishkin. The Society of Russian Aquafortists helped popularize etching in Russia. It existed for only a short time. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
