Solar Oil
(or gas oil), a petroleum fraction that has undergone purification with bases. Its approximate boiling range is 240°-400°C, and its viscosity is 5–9 centistokes at 50°C. The sulfur content of solar oil does not exceed 0.2 percent. Solar oil’s solidification point is less than -20°C, and its flash point in an open crucible is higher than 125°C. Solar oil is used as a fuel for low-speed tractor, stationary, and marine diesel engines. In the tanning industry it is employed for the impregnation of hides. It is also used as a cooling or quenching fluid in the machining and the heat treatment of metals. REFERENCESTovarnye nefteprodukty, ikh svoistva i primenenie: Spravochnik. Edited by N. G. Puchkov.
