(engineering)
A natural-draft drive device that uses solar radiation to provide upward momentum to a mass of air, thereby converting the thermal energy to kinetic energy, which can be extracted from the air with suitable wind machines.

In the upper corridor of the administration/entrance building a more ambitious solar chimney protrudes from the roof, doubling as a rhetorical entrance tower.
On very hot days, the glass roof of the drum can be opened so that it acts as a solar chimney and is self-cooled by convection.
