Solov’ev, Vasilii Ivanovich
Born 1890 in Goldingen; died July 29, 1939. Participant in the revolutionary movement in Russia; party journalist. Member of the Communist Party from 1913. Son of an office clerk. Solov’ev studied at the University of St. Petersburg. From 1913 to 1914 he was on the staff of the newspapers Pravda and Nash put’; in 1917 he joined the editorial board of the Moscow Bolshevik newspaper Sotsial-demokrat and became a member of the Bolshevik group of the Moscow municipal duma and of the Moscow district committee of the RSDLP(B). In 1917 he was a delegate to the Sixth Congress of the RSDLP(B), and, during the October Revolution of 1917, a member of the Military Party Center for leadership of the armed insurrection in Moscow. In the period 1918–20, Solov’ev was a member of the bureau of the Moscow party committee and of the presidium of the Moscow soviet. In 1920 he worked at Narkompros (People’s Commissariat of Education), and in 1921–22 he was deputy chairman of Glavpolitprosvet (Central Committee of the Republic for Political Education). Later he worked in the Central Committee of the party and in the Comintern. He also served as a diplomat and worked as a journalist.
