Sommerfeld formula [′zȯm·ər‚felt ‚fȯr·myə·lə]
(electromagnetism)
An approximate formula for the field strength of electromagnetic radiation generated by an antenna at distances small enough so that the curvature of the earth may be neglected, in terms of radiated power, distance from the antenna, and various constants and parameters. Also known as Sommerfeld equation.
