    0.01 sec.
Somogyi, József

Born June 9, 1916, in Félszerfalva. Hungarian sculptor. People’s Artist of the Hungarian People’s Republic (1970).

Somogyi graduated from the Academy of Arts in Budapest in 1941. His monumental works, such as Mother and Child (aluminum, 1967, Budapest), consist of dynamic figures freely positioned in space. These works are executed in a romantic spirit and are marked by expressiveness of gestures. Somogyi has also produced freestanding sculpture, including very small works.

Somogyi received the Kossuth Prize in 1954 and the Munkácsy Prize in 1956.
