Sonnenschein, Rosa (1847–1932) editor; born in Hungary. She immigrated to the U.S.A. with her rabbi husband in 1869. She was editor of American Jewess, a women's paper, from 1895–99. A moderate liberal, she was sympathetic to Zionism and believed in synagogal rights for women, along with home and marriage. Her 1880 essay, "The Pioneers," described a St. Louis women's literary society.
