Sorocaba (s r kä`bə), city (1996 pop. 431,370), São Paulo state, S Brazil, on the Sorocaba River. It is a transportation hub and a manufacturing center where textiles, cement, vegetable oils, and agricultural machinery are made. Natural resources in the municipal area include iron, gold, and silver.
