Soroka

a part of an Old Russian headdress worn by married women. The soroka was a covering made of linen, red calico, or other fabric that was worn over a kichka (a married woman’s headdress). It consisted of an embroidered front (ochel’e), side flaps with laces for tying (kryl’ia), and a back section (khvost). A kerchief was tied over the soroka.

The soroka was also part of the costume of some groups of Mordvinians. By the early 20th century it was no longer worn.

Soroka

the Russian name for a rapid-fire multibarrel weapon used in the 16th and early 17th centuries (seeORGAN).
