Sosnowiec

Sosnowiec (sôsnô`vyĕts), Ger. Sosnowitz, city (1993 est. pop. 258,500), Śląskie prov., S Poland. A center of the Katowice mining and industrial region, it has coal mines, ironworks, and steelworks and various other heavy industrial plants. Sosnowiec passed to Prussia in 1795, to Russia in 1815, and reverted to Poland in 1919. The city has a 17th-century castle.

Chorzow, Bytom, Katowice, Dabrowa Gornicza, Ruda Slaska, Zabrze, and Sosnowiec were classified as cities with high environmental hazards (index 3).
During the quarter, the company won the tenders and received the licenses to build and operate telecommunications networks in the following cities: Gdask, Gdinia and Sopot (total population of 757,000); Katowice, Gliwice, Bytom, Tychy, Mikolow and Sosnowiec (total population of 1,209,000); Krakow (total population of 741,000); Poznan (total population of 581,000); and, Chelm (total population of 70,000).
The pressure parts of the CFB boilers will be manufactured in Poland by Foster Wheeler Energy FAKOP in its manufacturing facility in Sosnowiec.
