Sothic cycle [′sä·thik ‚sī·kəl]
(astronomy)
A time period of about 1460 years; this cycle is such that the New Year of the calendar used in ancient Egypt was in error by a whole year because the adopted year of 365 days is about a quarter of a day shorter than the mean solar year.
